Memories of World Trade Center

I worked in the World Trade Center for two years (1997-1998), teaching Chinese language and culture in the World Trade Institute which was located on the 76th floor of Tower 2.

I usually arrived 15 minutes earlier and sat on a marble chair around the fountain at the center of the World Trade Plaza, eating my snacks while enjoying the view.
The plaza was not very crowded in the afternoon and it was quiet around. It was relaxing to sit there listening to the splashing of the water of the fountain.

I enjoyed teaching there at night. The whole building was quiet and the night view outside the windows was breath-taking. Thousands of lights outlined Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. Moving vehicles looked like small bugs. When it was windy, we could feel the whole building swaying from side to side, making squeezing noise.

The lobby on the street floor and the one in the basement were huge and visitors often got lost at concourse level.

May all the lives lost in 9/11 rest in peace.
